About Me

I am currently a whitebelt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Mid-America Martial Arts. We are a Rodrigo Vaghi school in Omaha, NE. I started on August 6, 2012. Prior to that I was fairly sedentary. The last time I didn’t any kind of organized sports was freshman soccer 20 years back.

This blog was started for a couple reasons. One, I was trying to write a little bit each week about my experience in class so that I wouldn’t forget. This really picked up once I started sparring, I wanted to try and see if there were common themes for my BJJ game.  I also wanted to have something out there that would encourage people who were looking at BJJ and weren’t sure if they were too old, or too lazy, or not tough enough.  Finally, I have friends and family that don’t really get why I do BJJ (and why I started when I was 35), so I wanted something that would give a bit of insight.

Below is a picture of some of my gym-mates when Rodrigo Vaghi was in town in November 2012.
